Pepe Montoya

Pepe was born and raised in Deming, NM, surrounded by Native American art depicted by rock petroglyphs. These early drawings fascinated him, and when he moved to Arizona in 1994, he began cutting images out of steel plate using a torch and plasma cutter. The drawing, cutting and welding are all freehand, so no two pieces are exactly alike.

Studying various sites and photographs of these petroglyphs has enabled Pepe to create his art pieces with a deep appreciation for those who came before him.
